Use RSS to add Missourinet news and sports to your website

Keeping fresh content on your station website is a challenge. And while we encourage Missourinet affiliates to use our news and sports stories (text and audio) on their websites... there aren't enough hours in the day to keep up if you're doing it manually.

Fortunately, Missourinet.com is RSS enabled which means you can automatically pull our stories into your website.

If you're fortunate enough to have a webmaster who knows how to integrate RSS feeds into your site, all he or she needs is the RSS feed link from our website. Here's an example from our sister network, Wisconsin Radio Network.

Rss_news
But what do you do if your site is built by hand using Dreamweaver, Frontpage or whatever and does not support RSS integration or you use a CMS (content managment system) which does not support RSS integration?

There are a number good solutions but the one we've been recommending is RSSinlcude. From the RSSinclude website, you enter the URL address of the Missourinet RSS feed (news, sports, etc) you would like to integrate and copy a piece of HTML into your website. That's all. Nothing more is needed to display any RSS feed on your website. The RSSinclude service does all the work. By way of example, American Ag Network is using RSSinclude to pull a couple of different RSS feeds from the Brownfield Network.

The guys at RSSinlcude even offer links to similar services. That's pretty cool.

If you're using RSS (on your own or with a service like RSSinclude) to add Missourinet content to your station website, please let us know. We'd like to mention you here. And if you need a copy of the Missourinet logo, contact Jonathan Shelby or Kasie Zimmerman.

Video: New Missourinet Work Stations

Seems like only yesterday that Missourinet reporters were recording telephone interviews on Radio Shack cassette recorders and "editing" by dubbing sound bites back to carts.

Our new work stations are tricked out with great gear, configured to make it easier for our reporters to do their jobs faster and more efficiently.

We asked Learfield VP of Technical Services, Charlie Peters, to give us a little tour (runs about 10 min).

News Booth: 1984

News Booth

The new and improved Missourinet newsroom has some of the very best equipment available. And it looks even nicer to those who remember "the old days." The photo above is the news booth/production studio in our old McCarty Street facility. This is where we produced all newscasts and sports reports, as well as a lot of commercials. When you heard Bob Priddy come thundering down the steps from the newsroom, you got out of this small, confined space as quickly as possible.

I'm sorry you can't see the orange shag carpet lining the walls.

A place for everything...

Bob Priddy & Company are all moved in to the newly renovated Missourinet newsroom. A bit of interesting trivia from Clyde Lear: Kurt Kerns of The Lawrence Group of St. Louis --the lead architect on our project-- was the head guy on the renovation of "Black Rock", the CBS Corporate Center in New York.

Clyde stopped by the newsroom on moving day to give Steve Wals a hand. [Thanks to Jim Foucault for the video.]

Interview with Dave Shepherd

Dave ShepherdIt would be difficult to be involved in broadcasting in Missouri and not be familiar with The Shepherd Group. They operate some of the most successful small market radio stations in the country. Earlier this year, Dave Shepherd sold his 16 stations to a Florida-based company. Dave talked with our Steve Mays about where broadcasting has been and where it might be going.

New Sports Director

You'll soon be hearing a new voice reporting Missourinet Sports. Bill Pollock has been hired as our new Sports Director. Bill is already part of the Learfield family, joining our sports division in 2001, working in affiliate relations. He'll be transitioning from his old job to his new on this summer. You'll begin hearing him on our afternoon sports reports this month, then full time in September. Bill chatted briefly about his plans for Missourinet Sports. (7 min)
