Webcasts of Supreme Court arguments resume September 5

The Missouri Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on September 5th. This will be the first session of the court since they took over responsibility for streaming audo of the arguments.

Doesn't appear to be a link yet, but we're told this is the page from which you can listen to the arguments.

As of this posting, there's still a dated reference to our subscription service. For the time being, only our subscribers can access the archived arguments. In coming weeks we plan to open these up to the public. Watch this space for updates.

Curtain falls on Football Friday Night

The eight year run of Football Friday Night has come to an end. We will not be producing the weekly high school scoreboard show this year. We'd like to thank all of the radio stations that aired the show; the coaches who called in scores (if they won <g>); and the fans who listened --on the air on on the web.

We've sent John Fougere and David Brazeal to the farm where they chase rabbits all day and have a good life.

Religion in Germany (or not)

Installment #5 of Brent Martin's "European Adventure"

“Why is religion so important in America?” The question was posed by a German journalist as we sat drinking, he his beer and me my Coke, on a warm Sunday evening at a beer garden off a park in Berlin.

It’s a tough question to answer, even though I was prepared for it. Missourinet News Director Bob Priddy, who participated in the RIAS Commission journalist exchange in 2001, had mentioned that a German journalist he had encountered asked him that question. There is a fascination in Germany about the role of religion in everyday life in America as well as in our politics.

Germany and America: Strained Political Relationship

Installment #4 of Brent Martin's "European Adventure"

Germans don’t care much for George W. Bush. Actually, that might be too mild a statement. Germans don’t like George W. Bush. Better, but that still might miss the point. Germans can’t stand George W. Bush. That actually might be pretty close to the truth.

MO Dept. of Conservation now blogging

Lorna Domke is in charge of "Outreach and Education" for the Missouri Department of Conservation and she has added a blog to her communication tool kit.

Lorna Domke "I get to learn a lot about what’s going on all over the state in forestry, fisheries, wildlife, resource science, protection and private lands services. We have lots of ways to get the word out including our regular website, the Missouri Conservationist magazine, and news releases. But on this blog, I’m going to share odds and ends of what I’m hearing from other divisions and what’s of seasonal interest."

Our short-list of state departments or agencies with blogs is growing: Attorney General (Consumer Protection); Missouri Gaming Commission; Children's Trust Fund; KidsFirst; Dept. of Agriculture (Farmers' Markets) Department of Mental Health; Lottery. I'm sure there are more that I haven't discovered yet (Three of these are the work of former Learfielders).

It's just a trickle now but as people discover how much more effective a blog is than the traditional website, this will become a flood.
