Dick Morris stumps for Sarah Steelman
It was only a matter of time before Missouri's gubernatorial race started garnering some attention from political observers outside the Show-Me State. And it's happening. Dick Morris, former President Bill Clinton's adviser and campaign manager, is visiting St. Louis on Monday, where he'll speak at a cocktail reception and fundraiser at the St. Louis Racquet Club for Republican gubernatorial candidate Sarah Steelman.
In an e-mail to subscribers of Morris's vote.com ... the writer, broadcaster, and pundit says, "I don't often speak on behalf of candidates, but Sarah is a big exception."
What is it Morris likes about Steelman? Her effort, as State Treasurer, to stop state dollars from being invested in countries that engage in or sponsor terrorism.
"When it became clear that Iran was trying to develop nuclear weapons," writes Morris, "Sarah Steelman was the first state official in the U.S. to ban the investment of her state's pension funds in any company that does business with Teheran."
"Sarah banned any pension investment in 485 companies that do business with either Iran, Syria, Sudan, or North Korea. They include some of the major global companies like Total, Repsol, Hyundai, Alcatel-Lucent, and BNP Paribas."
Morris then takes a shot at another Republican in Missouri's gubernatorial race – Congressman Kenny Hulshof. Morris says Hulshof is, "… too tied to the Washington establishment to win in Missouri, especially with Congress' current dismal ratings."
Morris promises his talk will go beyond the Missouri race … and into the national race for the White House.
Morris has, of course, made quite a political conversion since his days with President Clinton. He now embraces conservative views and candidates.
