Two Iowans who want to represent you in Congress have had some secret, er, private events in the past few days.

This morning, Republican congressional candidate Jeff Lamberti had House Majority Leader John Boehner in town to campaign for him. "They discussed the need for spending reform in Washington" according to a news release from the Lamberti campaign.  We'll have to trust Tim Miller's word on that one (Miller is Lamberti's press person) since there were no reporters there to confirm that was the topic discussed.

Congressman Steve King, a Republican from Kiron, held a couple of interesting forums last week, but they were closed to reporters as well.  King hosted conferences in Sioux City and Council Bluffs for Iowa pastorrs.  He brought in "national leaders of the evangelical and family values community" according to a news release from Summer Johnson, King's congressional press secretary.  "King organized the 'Faith and Freedom Conference' to give Iowa pastors the opportunity to discuss the role of faith in the foundation and the future of the country," according to the release. 

Guest speakers were Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, Tom Minnery of Focus on the Family, Gene Mills of the Louisiana Family Forum and Mark Early of Prison Fellowship.  King is quoted in the release:  "As believers and as citizens, we have a responsibility to continue to seek God's guidance in our daily activities and apply His principles to our civic involvement for the future of the nation.  The role of faith in the lives of our Founding Fathers tells us that faith will be an important guide in the future of the country."
